ichael’s main research interests revolve around the ways that Germany has grappled with the legacies of the Third Reich, World War II, and the Holocaust. He is also an advocate of experiential learning, global education, and study abroad who urges his students to travel, visit archives for their research, and to acquaint themselves with actual historical sites. To this end, Dr. Hayse leads study tours to Europe and Israel on the theme of the history of the Third Reich, World War II, and the Holocaust.

Areas of Expertise: 20th century German history, Russian and East European history, and Holocaust/genocide studies, history and memory.
